Shopian, Feb 15: In a major breakthrough amid heavy winter conditions, snow clearance operations on the historic Mughal Road have successfully reached Peer Ki Gali, marking significant progress toward the early reopening of this vital inter-district link connecting Shopian with Poonch.

Despite exceptionally heavy snowfall this season, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), under Beacon Project (52 RCC), has carried out snow removal operations with remarkable speed and efficiency. The challenging terrain and deep snow accumulation along high-altitude stretches had posed serious obstacles, yet BRO teams worked relentlessly, deploying men and machinery in extreme weather to restore connectivity at the earliest.

The District Administration Shopian has also played a pivotal and commendable role in ensuring smooth coordination and logistical support throughout the clearance drive. Continuous monitoring, field-level supervision, and timely facilitation by the administration have significantly accelerated the progress of snow removal along the strategic corridor.

The Mughal Road holds immense importance for the region as it serves as a crucial alternative link between Kashmir and the Pir Panjal districts, particularly Poonch and Rajouri. Its early reopening not only facilitates movement of essential supplies and passengers but also provides economic relief and connectivity to remote populations residing along the route.

Officials expressed optimism that, with the clearance now reaching Peer Ki Gali the highest and most snowbound segment efforts are being intensified to make the road traffic-worthy in the coming days, subject to weather conditions. Authorities are working on a mission mode to ensure that this key lifeline is restored for public use as soon as possible.

The swift progress achieved this year has been widely appreciated by locals and stakeholders, who have lauded both BRO and the District Administration Shopian for their dedication, coordination, and tireless efforts in overcoming severe winter challenges to reconnect the region.
