New Delhi, Feb 20 (JKNS): Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has written to Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) National Convenor Nasir Khuehami, strongly condemning the recent attacks on Kashmiri students and shawl sellers reported from different parts of the country and assuring full support in safeguarding their rights and dignity.
In his letter, as per news agency JKNS, JKSA in a statement said, Gandhi expressed deep concern over what he termed as a disturbing wave of violence targeting members of the Kashmiri community. He observed that the “politics of hate” has weakened institutions and strained the nation’s social fabric, alleging that certain elements either tacitly or overtly encouraged by the ruling dispensation have fostered an atmosphere of fear among minorities and marginalised groups.
The Leader of Opposition unequivocally condemned violence in all its forms and reiterated his party’s commitment to protecting constitutional values. Expressing solidarity with the victims and their families who have endured “unimaginable pain,” Gandhi asserted that he will continue to fight hate and stand firmly for their right to live with dignity, security and equal citizenship.
The development comes amid mounting concerns over repeated incidents of harassment, assault and intimidation faced by Kashmiri students and seasonal traders, particularly shawl sellers, in several states. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has been actively taking up the matter with political leaders and authorities, demanding concrete safeguards to ensure safety and protection of the community.
