Shopian, February 21: In a significant breakthrough amid harsh winter conditions, the snow clearance operation on the historic Mughal Road has been successfully completed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), marking the first time the strategic route is set to open in the month of February.
Officials confirmed that while snow removal work has been completed, vehicular traffic has not yet been allowed. Authorities stated that movement will commence only after final inspection and formal clearance from the concerned departments to ensure commuter safety.
The District Administration Shopian closely monitored the entire operation, coordinating efforts to facilitate timely clearance of the road. Their supervision and preparedness have been widely appreciated, particularly in view of the challenging weather conditions.
BRO personnel worked round the clock in sub-zero temperatures, deploying advanced snow-cutting machinery to clear massive snow accumulation along the high-altitude stretch. The successful completion of the operation reflects the agency’s continued commitment to maintaining vital road connectivity in difficult terrains.
Mughal Road is a key strategic and economic link connecting Shopian district in Kashmir with Poonch in the Jammu region, significantly reducing travel distance and enhancing inter-regional connectivity. The reopening of the route is expected to provide major relief to residents and boost trade and transportation once traffic resumes officially.
The development is being viewed as a milestone achievement, highlighting coordinated administrative efforts and the dedication of field teams working under extreme winter conditions.
