Shopian, Feb 25 (JKNS): The CEO Municipal Council Shopian has issued a show cause notice to the contractor responsible for collection of entry fees at municipal toll posts after complaints of overcharging three-wheelers surfaced.

According to sources, the contractor was bound to collect entry fees strictly as per the approved rate schedule of the Municipal Council Shopian for the year 2025–26. However, complaints received by the authorities allege that three-wheelers were being charged ₹20 per day instead of the prescribed rate of ₹10 per day.

The notice further states that receipts issued at the toll posts allegedly do not mention the registration numbers of vehicles, which amounts to a violation of contractual terms and prescribed norms. Such practices, the notice observes, undermine public trust and constitute a breach of contract conditions.

Taking serious note of the matter, CEO of the the Municipal Council Mr Sohail has directed the contractor to immediately desist from the illegal practice and ensure that entry fees are collected strictly as per the approved schedule.

The contractor has been asked to show cause within seven days from the date of issuance of the notice as to why action under law should not be initiated, which may include cancellation of the contract and initiation of criminal proceedings at the contractor’s risk and responsibility. (JKNS)
