Kupwara, Feb 25(JKNS):A market inspection drive was carried out in the town of Kralpora in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district to ensure price control and the availability of quality goods for the public.

The inspection was conducted under the supervision of Naib Tehsildar Kralpora Mohammad Abbas, Naib Tehsildar Shaukat Ahmad, and SHO Kralpora Manzoor Ahmad. Officials from the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Revenue Department, Police, and members of the Market Committee also participated in the drive. Among them were Market Committee President Mohammad Amin Dar and Zonal President Mohammad Sadiq Shah.

During the inspection, several traders were fined for overpricing and selling expired products. Authorities collected fines amounting to thousands of rupees. Expired items found during the inspection were destroyed on the spot.

Officials directed shopkeepers to avoid overcharging customers and strictly refrain from selling expired goods. Traders were also instructed to display price lists prominently outside their shops so that customers can easily check the rates before making purchases.

The authorities further warned shopkeepers not to place goods on footpaths or public pathways and to keep public spaces clear to ensure smooth movement for pedestrians.

The public was also advised to check the price and quality of goods carefully before purchasing. Meanwhile, poultry sellers, butchers, and sweet shop owners were instructed to maintain proper hygiene to safeguard public health.

Officials emphasized that all traders must conduct business according to the rules and regulations. They warned that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found violating the law.(JKNS)
