Jammu, Mar 8 (JKNS): Former DGP J&K Ashok Bhan inaugurated the 2nd All India Police Kabaddi Cluster 2025–26 at the historic Maulana Azad Stadium, Jammu on Sunday.
The prestigious sporting event is being organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police at various venues across Jammu from March 7th to March 12th, 2026, bringing together sportspersons of Police from various States/UTs across the country.
The tournament is being organised under the supervision of Director General of Police, J&K, Shri Nalin Prabhat. Anand Jain, IPS, ADG Armed J&K, is serving as the Organising Secretary of the event.
Anand Jain in his opening address said that Today’s occasion holds special significance, as the event is inaugurated on 8th March i.e. International Women’s Day. On this auspicious occasion, three distinguished sportspersons from Jammu & Kashmir who have brought laurels to the UT through their dedication and excellence in sports were made Guest of Honour.
Manpreet Kour in Gymnastics, Ms. Rishika Khajuria in Fencing, and Ms. Nazia Bibi in Kho-Kho have carved a place for themselves. They continue to inspire young athletes, especially women, to pursue sports with determination and confidence.
He mentioned that Jammu and Kashmir Police has lot of Sports potential and hosting of such games will inspire young children to pick it up as profession.
He added that their presence as Guest of Honour at the Opening Ceremony of the 2nd All India Police Kabaddi Cluster was matter of great pride for all of us and reflects our collective commitment to promoting women empowerment and sporting excellence.
The Kabaddi Cluster will feature competitions in four disciplines Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Fencing, and Gymnastics, highlighting the athletic excellence, discipline, and team spirit of police personnel from across India.
A total of 1648 athletes are participating in the tournament, including 1071 men and 577 women. In addition, team managers, technical officials, NADA officials, and representatives from All-India Police Sports Control Board, New Delhi are also attending the event. Overall participation stands at 1798, making it one of the largest Police sporting events in the country.
Teams from various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) are also taking part in the competition, including Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Shastra Seema Bal, Central Industrial Security Force, Assam Rifles, Railway Protection Force and Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
The event aims to promote sportsmanship, physical fitness, and camaraderie among police personnel, while strengthening coordination and bonding among various security forces of the country. It also provides an important platform for police athletes to showcase their sporting talent and competitive spirit at the national level.
Ashok Bhan, former DGP stated that the inauguration of the Kabaddi Cluster on International Women’s Day (8th March) holds special significance.
He appreciated the enthusiastic participation of Police & CAPF Sports especially Women personnel, noting that their presence reflects the growing empowerment and vital role in the Police and Central Armed Police Forces.
Dr. Bhan extended his warm greetings and appreciation to all women participants for their dedication and sporting excellence . He also lauded female participants on the International Women’s Day. He mentioned contribution amd lead taken by female athletes at National and International levels.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from athletes and officials, marking a vibrant beginning to the week-long sporting event.
