Srinagar, Mar 14 (JKNS): The Alumni Association of SSM College of Engineering, Parihaspora on Saturday organised a grand alumni meet at the college campus, attended by more than 100 former students from across the country and abroad.
A highlight of the event was the felicitation of 61 students of the college who were recently recruited as Junior Engineers through the JKSSRB in the R&B (PWD) and Jal Shakti Departments. The newly selected engineers were invited as special guests and were congratulated by senior alumni and faculty members.
Prominent alumni present on the occasion included Dr. Muzamil Rafiqi, Superintendent Engineer (LCMA); Er. Firdous Ahmad Bhat, Chairman of the Institution of Engineers (India), J&K State Centre; and Er. Irfan Ahmad Reshi, Secretary of IEI. Alumni working in government departments, private organisations, startups and entrepreneurial ventures also attended the gathering.
Addressing the programme, Dr. Rafiqi urged budding engineers to work with dedication and sincerity so that the responsibilities entrusted to them are fulfilled effectively. Er. Firdous Ahmad Bhat appreciated the contribution of the college management and faculty in shaping the careers of students.
Er. Irfan Ahmad Reshi emphasised the importance of strengthening alumni engagement with industry and academia to create more opportunities for students.
Alumni from outside India also joined the meet. Er. Mushafiq Ashai, a UAE-based web consultant, said SSM College not only provides a degree but also guides students towards achieving their dreams.
Er. Yaseer Ahmad Regoo, Senior Manager Cyber Security at J&K Bank, called for the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence courses across engineering and management disciplines, while entrepreneur Er. Kamran Nisar, chairman of several organisations including Winter Fell Café, highlighted the need to promote an entrepreneurial culture among students.
Members of the college managing committee, including Dr. G. N. Qasba, Mrs. Roma Wani, Prof. (Dr.) Barkat Hussain and Prof. (Dr.) M. A. Shah of NIT Srinagar, were also present on the occasion. (JKNS)
