Srinagar, Mar 15 (JKNS): The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Sunday said that erratic weather conditions are likely to continue across Jammu and Kashmir till March 20, with intermittent rain and snowfall expected at several places.

Director of the MeT department Mukhtar Ahmad, as per news agency JKNS, said that currently rainfall is being reported at many places in Kashmir division and at a few locations in Jammu division.

He said that on March 15–16, intermittent light to moderate rain and snowfall in higher reaches is expected at many places till the forenoon of March 16. On March 17, the weather is likely to remain partly cloudy with brief spells of light rain or snow over isolated higher reaches.

The MeT department further predicted generally cloudy weather from March 18 to 20, with chances of intermittent light to moderate rain and snowfall at many places, mainly during night and morning hours.

From March 21 to 23, the weather is expected to remain generally dry, while March 24–25 may witness generally cloudy conditions with light rain or snowfall over higher reaches at scattered places.

Issuing an advisory, the MeT department asked travellers and transporters moving through higher reaches and important mountain passes to plan their journeys accordingly. It also warned of possible thunder and gusty winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph at a few places during March 15–16 and March 18–20.

Farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations between March 15 and March 20 due to the prevailing weather conditions, Ahmad said. (JKNS)
