Srinagar, Mar 19 (JKNS): Chairperson of J&K Waqf Board, Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, on Thursday said that Jammu and Kashmir has the potential to establish its own independent moon-sighting mechanism, provided the government takes necessary steps.
Speaking to reporters, as per news agency JKNS, Dr Andrabi said that with the availability of modern technology, the Union Territory government can also set up its own equipment and committee for moon sighting instead of relying on external confirmations.
“If the government considers it, Jammu and Kashmir can have its own system and we won’t have to depend on others,” she said.
She also highlighted the arrangements being made by the Waqf Board for Eid prayers, stating that all major mosques and shrines are being prepared to facilitate devotees.
“We are ensuring that people face no inconvenience while offering prayers. Proper facilities and arrangements are being put in place at all major congregational sites,” Dr Andrabi said.
Referring to the prevailing weather conditions, Andrabi said that recent rainfall was beneficial and expressed hope for pleasant weather on Eid so that people can participate in large numbers. She added that waterproof arrangements have also been made at key locations to manage any adverse weather.
Extending greetings in advance, she urged people to celebrate the festival with a spirit of compassion and inclusivity.
“The essence of Eid lies in caring for the needy and ensuring that no one is left behind. We pray for peace, progress and harmony in Jammu and Kashmir and across the world,” she said. (JKNS)
