Srinagar, Mar 25 (JKNS): Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg on Wednesday said there is no need to panic over rumours of a lockdown, asserting that there is no such directive from the government at present.

Speaking to reporters, as per news agency JKNS, he said, “Rumours about a lockdown are baseless. If any such decision is taken in the national interest, it will be officially announced by the Prime Minister or the Government of India. People should not believe or spread unverified information.”

He said that essential commodities are being closely monitored and adequate stocks are available, with proper distribution mechanisms in place to ensure uninterrupted supply.

The Divisional Commissioner cautioned those involved in spreading misinformation, saying strict directions have been issued and action will be taken against rumour mongers. “People must rely only on official government platforms for authentic updates,” he added.

On the security front, he said the situation remains unchanged and is under constant review through joint efforts of the district administration and police. “Tourist destinations are being opened in a phased manner, and Kashmir is witnessing a significant influx of visitors,” he said.

Referring to the ongoing tourist season, he said that footfall is being closely monitored, especially after the opening of the Tulip Garden, and appealed to tourists to visit the Valley in large numbers during the spring and summer months. (JKNS)
