CHARKUT-KIGAM VILLAGE MELA*

Indian Army’s Headquarter 8 Sector Rashtriya Rifles and 47 Rashtriya Rifles (BIHAR) under the aegis of CIF(K) on Saturday organised Charkut-Kigam Village Mela at Chakkigam area in the frontier district of Kupwara. The event was held in continuation with Army’s efforts to bridge the gap between Jawan and Awam and to portray the achievements of meritorious girls in Kupwara district on the theme *‘Inspiring Daughters of Kupwara’*. The event highlighted the importance of women empowerment and education for upliftment of the society. The event constituted of various cultural and sports activities focussing on women empowerment and saw huge participation by locals who were very excited to be part of such a mega event and praised the Army for their efforts.


The event constituted of enthralling performances by the students of Army Goodwill School, Krusan which mesmerised the audience all along. The event was evenly laced with other awestruck performances including dance performances, patriotic songs, the high spirited Bhangra, Kashmiri folk dance showing the culture of Kashmir, Horse Race and various games for children. The performing children ensured that the audience stood on their feet, with eyes glued on stage with their scintillating performances.

The events also included Free medical check-up, Food item stalls of different cuisines, lucky draw, and make-shift shops selling items at discounted rate, which attracted a sizeable participation from the locals. The kids remained involved in playing various games including Jalebi race, Musical chair, Kho Kho, throughout the day.


The event concluded with felicitation and prize distribution to the participants.

The event was attended by many dignitaries from both civil administration and Army including Brigadier Neeraj Sharma, Commander 8 Sector RR and Sri Ram Ambarker, SSP Kupwara. The locals appreciated the efforts made by Indian Army and expressed hope that it will go a long way towards strengthening the bond between locals and Army.
