Srinagar, Mar 28 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on Saturday said that the recent incident under discussion was “not an ordinary matter” and called for a strong message on law and order to reach all concerned authorities.

Speaking in the House, as per news agency JKNS, Rather said, “This message should reach everywhere… this was not an ordinary incident. It concerns the very soul of democracy.”

“The entire House has spoken from the heart and there is no ambiguity in what members have expressed,” he added that the people expect accountability and transparency.

He further stressed the need for a fair probe, stating, “The people want a fair investigation. Some serious questions have arisen and they must be addressed properly.”

“We are hopeful that the investigation will be carried out in a manner that ensures justice and punishment for the guilty so that such incidents are not repeated,” Rather said.

On March 11 evening, a gunshot was fired during a wedding ceremony in Jammu on Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Farooq Abdullah where Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary were present at the event, triggering a brief security scare.

Union home minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has assured Farooq Abdullah that the incident will be throngly investigated while IGP Jammu constituted a SIT into the incident. (JKNS)
