Kupwara, Mar 30 (JKNS): A Mega Plantation Drive was successfully held at Hatmulla, Kupwara, in Kamraj Forest Division. During the drive, more than 5,000 plants were planted at the designated site.

The programme was organized as part of the ongoing Green Drive of the Jammu & Kashmir Forest Department, under the aegis of the nationwide initiative “Ek Ped Shaheed ke Naam” and to mark the culmination of the national “Vande Mataram” campaign.

Despite incessant rainfall, the plantation activity was carried out with remarkable enthusiasm and dedication, reflecting the strong commitment of all stakeholders towards environmental conservation and afforestation.

The programme saw active participation from various wings of the Forest Department, including the Forest Territorial staff, Social Forestry Department, Forest Protection Force, and Soil Conservation Department. It also witnessed enthusiastic involvement from local residents, civil society members, and students from nearby schools, fostering community participation and environmental awareness among the younger generation.

The plantation drive was inaugurated by the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Kamraj Forest Division Kupwara, Mr. Owais Farooq Mir, in the presence of Range Officers of Kamraj Division, Assistant Directors of the Forest Protection Force, and other senior officers and field staff.

Speaking on the occasion, the DFO stated that such initiatives play a vital role in enhancing ecological balance and ensuring sustainable development. He appreciated the collective efforts of officials and locals in safeguarding the “green gold” of the Valley and emphasized the importance of continued public participation in conservation efforts.

He further noted that the event also served as a tribute to the brave martyrs of the nation who sacrificed their lives for the country, highlighting the significance of remembering their contributions while working towards a greener and better future.

The successful conduct of the drive underscores the Department’s continued commitment to enhancing green cover, promoting ecological sustainability, and encouraging community participation in environmental conservation. (JKNS)
