New Delhi, Apr 01 (JKNS): In a significant revision, prices of commercial LPG cylinders were increased by Rs 195.50 on Wednesday, following a sharp surge in global crude oil rates triggered by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
With the latest hike, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has risen to Rs 2,078.50 in Delhi. This comes after a previous increase of Rs 114.50 per cylinder on March 1, indicating a continued upward trend in commercial fuel costs.
However, there has been no change in domestic LPG prices. A 14.2-kg household cooking gas cylinder continues to be priced at Rs 913 in Delhi. The last revision in domestic LPG rates was carried out on March 7, when prices were increased by Rs 60 per cylinder.
Officials from state-run oil marketing companies, including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum, said that LPG prices are revised on the first day of every month based on international fuel benchmarks and fluctuations in currency exchange rates.
The recent spike in global oil prices—reportedly rising by nearly 50 percent—has been attributed to disruptions in energy supply chains caused by the escalating West Asia conflict. This has directly impacted fuel pricing across multiple sectors, particularly commercial LPG used by hotels, restaurants, and small businesses.
Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices have remained unchanged. Fuel rates have been stable since March last year, when a reduction of Rs 2 per litre was announced. Currently, petrol is priced at Rs 94.72 per litre and diesel at Rs 87.62 per litre in the national capital.
The latest hike in commercial LPG is expected to increase operational costs for businesses relying heavily on the fuel, even as relief continues for domestic consumers with no immediate change in household cooking gas prices. (JKNS)
