Anantnag, Apr 6 (JKNS): Government Medical College Anantnag has achieved a major breakthrough in cardiac care, with its Department of Cardiology successfully performing 114 electrophysiology procedures within a short span of 9–10 months, marking a significant milestone in advanced heart treatment in South Kashmir.
As per news agency JKNS, GMC Anantnag has achieved a remarkable milestone in the field of Electrophysiology by successfully performing an impressive 114 EPS/RFA procedures within just 9-10months, a feat accomplished despite initial limitations in infrastructure and expertise.
What began as a determined idea soon transformed into a structured and successful program. In the absence of a dedicated EP machine, the department collaborated with industry partners to arrange the equipment for two days each month.
Simultaneously, it was ensured that the presence of experienced proctors to guide and support the procedures. Patients with rhythm disorders requiring EPS/RFA were systematically enrolled from both OPD and emergency services.
Head of Cardiology Dr Syed Maqbool said that the program started gradually but gained strong momentum over time, ultimately benefiting patients from across South Kashmir.
He further said that in addition to achieving a 95% procedural success rate with zero mortality, one of the most significant accomplishments has been the capacity building within the department.
He added that the consultants working at the department have effectively trained in-house functioning like fellows and are now performing these procedures independently with growing confidence.
Dr Syed Maqbool added that this achievement is truly a team effort. He said that the credit goes to every member of the department consultants, junior residents, technicians, nurses, and support staff whose dedication and teamwork made this possible.
Department of cardiology extended sincere gratitude to esteemed Principal GMC Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, for her unwavering support and encouragement throughout the program.
Performing such a high number of EP procedures in a short duration with outstanding success is indeed a landmark achievement for the department. (JKNS)
