Drug Crackdown in Sopore: Three Peddlers Held, Contraband Seized in Twin Operations

Srinagar, Apr 9 (JKNS): Continuing its ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking, Sopore Police apprehended three drug peddlers in two separate operations in Rafiabad area and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials said on Wednesday.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS, police said, Continuing its sustained drive against the drug menace, Sopore Police apprehended three drug peddlers in two separate incidents under the jurisdiction of Police Post Watergam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

During naka checking at Hadipora, Rafiabad, a suspicious individual was intercepted and apprehended. Upon personal search, poppy straw-like substance was recovered and seized as per due procedure. The accused has been identified as Qamar Ali, S/O Mohammad Ali Bhat, R/O Chanderkote Ramban.

Accordingly, FIR No. 25/2026 under Section 8/15 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Dangiwacha.

In another incident, during naka checking at Tragpora–Rohama Road, two suspicious persons were intercepted and apprehended. Upon their search, charas-like substance was recovered and seized as per due procedure.

The accused have been identified as Mursaleen Shafi, S/O Mohammad Shafi Yatoo and Ali Mohammad Yatoo, S/O Ghulam Mohammad Yatoo, both residents of Chijhama Rafiabad.

In this regard, FIR No. 26/2026 under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Dangiwacha.

Further investigation in both cases is underway to ascertain the source and wider linkages involved.

Sopore Police reiterate their zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and reaffirm their commitment to sustained enforcement to safeguard youth and society from the menace of drugs, police said. (JKNS)
