Srinagar, April 9 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that the United States must act to curb Israel’s actions to ensure that the ongoing ceasefire efforts in the Middle East remain intact, asserting that the conflict was not started by Iran but rather imposed upon it.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at SKICC Srinagar, as per news agency JKNS, the Chief Minister expressed concern over the rising tensions, particularly Israel’s operations in Lebanon. He stated that in case the ceasefire collapses, the responsibility would rest with Israel, adding that the US needs to play a decisive role in restraining its actions.
Referring to recent remarks by US President Donald Trump, Omar Abdullah said the statements coming from Washington appear inconsistent. He remarked that the shifting tone and language are not appropriate for a leader of such stature and would not be acceptable even on social media platforms.
He further noted that there seems to be reluctance in taking action despite repeated threats, indicating that fear of the US President could be a contributing factor.
On India’s diplomatic position, the Chief Minister observed that New Delhi’s close relations with Israel may have constrained its ability to act as a mediator. He added that the objective of the conflict should have been clearly outlined from the very beginning. (JKNS)
