Budgam, Apr 10 (JKNS): Senior Superintendent of Police Budgam Hariprasad K.K. on Saturday urged parents, teachers, and society to remain vigilant in identifying early signs of drug abuse among children and youth.

SSP Budgam was speaking to media on Sidelines of the launch of the 100-day intensive “Nasha Mukht Abhiyan,” aimed at eliminating drug abuse and promoting a healthier, drug-free society. The UT-wide campaign has been initiated under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

SSP Hariprasad, as per news agency JKNS, said that the family plays the most crucial role in early detection of substance abuse cases.

“First cooperation has to come from the family itself. There is a saying, it takes a society to raise a child. The first tell-tale signs of drug addiction are noticed by parents, teachers, and neighbours,” he said.

He further stated that timely intervention is essential and urged families to immediately approach police, administration, or health authorities if any such signs are observed.

“This is not an unsolvable issue. With proper treatment, a child can fully recover and be successfully reintegrated into society,” he said, adding that police are committed to a dual approach of strict action against suppliers and compassionate rehabilitation of victims.

SSP Hariprasad added that strict action would be taken against drug suppliers, while addicts would be treated with care and provided rehabilitation support, including counselling and assistance through police de-addiction centres.

He also encouraged public use of available counselling facilities, stating that the system is open for all. — (JKNS)
