Police arrests two drug peddlers in Bandipora and Anantnag

April 04:  Police in a series of actions against drug dealings have arrested two drug peddlers in Bandipora & Anantnag. Contraband substances have been recovered from their possession.

In Bandipora, based on specific information, a police party from Police Station Bandipora under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Bandipora established a checkpoint at Gundbal Bridge. During checking, one person identified as Showkat Ahmad Ganie resident of Saloosa Kreeri Baramulla was intercepted. On his personal checking, officers were able to recover 478 capsules/tablets of banned drugs and 30 tramadol injections from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Accordingly, case FIR number 42/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Bandipora and investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Preliminary investigation reveals that a notorious drug peddler namely Bilal Ahmad Rather resident of Gamroo Bandipora is involved in supplying these drugs. Efforts are on to nab him.

Similarly in Anantnag, a Police party from PS Anantnag at a checkpoint established at Khanbal, intercepted a person identified as Aasif Ahmad Bhat resident of Seepan Khanbal. During checking, officers were able to recover 400 grams of Charas from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 70/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Anantnag and investigation has been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings.
