Police arrests 06 drug peddlers in Anantnag, Kulgam* Huge consignment of drugs concealed in hideout, busted

April 27: Continuing the efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested 06 drug peddlers in South Kashmir’s Anantnag & Kulgam districts. Huge consignment of drugs concealed in an underground hideout was busted in village Tulkhan Bijbehara.

Based on specific information, a police party from Police Station Bijbehara at a checkpoint established at Tulkhan crossing intercepted a person identified as Farooq Ahmad Baht resident of Marhama. During checking, 10 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No 92/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Bijbehara and investigation was set into motion.

During the course of investigation and questioning of the arrested drug peddler, investigating team learnt that he was procuring drugs from a drug dealer identified as Mohd Ashraf Khan of Tulkhan village. On this information, a police party from Police Station Bijbehara along with Executive Magistrate raided the house of the drug dealer. During searches of the house and the courtyard, 34.7 kilograms of charas Powder, 80 bottles codeine phosphate & 4500 capsules of Spasmoproxyvon concealed in an underground hideout, which was busted using a JCB, were recovered.  The drug dealer has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.

It is pertinent to mention here that one such hideout was busted earlier this month on 7th of April in same village and huge consignment of drugs was also recovered.

Similarly in Kulgam, a police party of Police Post Frisal during patrolling at Kharpora intercepted a vehicle (Wagnor Car) bearing registration number DL9CP-2664 with four persons on board. They have been identified as Waqar Ahmad Dar son of Mohd Yaseen Dar resident of Padshahibagh Srinagar, Mohd Aslam War son of Ghulam Hassan War resident of Arwani Bijebhara, Bilal Ahmad Hanji son of Mohd Maqbool Hanji resident of Kharpora Frisal and Mehraj-ud-din Wani son of Ghulam Mohd Wani resident of Nowpora Kharpora Frisal. During checking, 42 bottles of codeine phosphate & 130 grams of charas were recovered. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

A case vide FIR number 21/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Yaripora and further investigation is in progress.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
