An exclusive Women’s Cycle Rally is being organized at Baramulla on 12 Sep 21. The 65 Km cycle rally will start from Baramulla and terminate at Line of Control near Kaman Aman Setu, Uri. This is the first time in Kashmir that an exclusive women’s only cycling event of this magnitude is being organized.

The rally has drawn enthusiastic participation not only from girls of Kashmir but also from all over the country. While some of the cyclists are accomplished athletes, majority are first time enthusiasts who are keenly looking forward to the adventure. The rally organized by Indian Army in consult with J & K Cycling Association comes close on heels of similar event held on 13 August 21 which was a universal event open for all genders.

In addition to providing an opportunity to younger generations to imbibe a culture of fitness and adventure, the rally is also expected to provide fillip to tourism in remote corners of the state. Speaking on this occasion GOC Dagger Div spoke about the importance to enhance the tourism footprint in the valley in the areas that have limited access. This would allow locals from remote areas to benefit from tourist footfall and also encourage girls from the area to realise their dreams.

A large number of women across the country have expressed their gratitude towards Indian Army for organizing this unique event. Ms Preeti Maske, an ultra cyclist from Pune who recently became the first women to complete the 6000 KM Golden Quadrilateral 24 days and 6 hours in her video message complimented the Indian Army for this unique women specific cycle ride and shown her excitement to peddle in this untouched land. A young girl aged 16 years, Anush from Baramulla, who is participating in the event is so thrilled that she has started practicing since the day the event was announced. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Tausif Raina, President Municipal Corporation, Baramulla expressed his gratitude and said that remote town of Baramulla would benefit from the increased tourist footfall and locals are enthusiastic about the idea. Noted model actor and sports enthusiast Mr Milind Soman along with his wife Ms Ankita Konwar will flag off the event and will be participating also.
