Rajouri: A four-member special medical team from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, arrived in Rajouri on Saturday evening to investigate a mysterious illness that has claimed 17 lives, including 13 children, in Badhal village.

Details available with news agency JKNS that the AIIMS team arrived on Saturday evening and immediately visited the Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri, where 11 patients affected by the illness are currently undergoing treatment. The doctors conducted detailed interactions with the patients, focusing on their symptoms, the timeline of the illness, and particularly the food they consumed on the day they fell sick.

Speaking to the AIIMS team, Dr. A.S. Bhatia, Principal of GMC Rajouri provided a comprehensive briefing on the patients’ condition upon admission.

An official told news agency JKNS that, following the hospital visit, the team proceeded to special health camps set up in Badhal village, where they engaged with local residents to gather more insights. The team also collected environmental samples and conducted on-site examinations to identify potential sources of contamination or infection.

The AIIMS team is expected to continue its investigation on Sunday, meeting more affected families and analyzing the situation on the ground. Their primary focus is to determine the exact cause of the outbreak and recommend measures to prevent further spread, they said.

The mysterious illness has triggered widespread concern in the region, prompting health authorities and local administration to remain on high alert. Emergency response teams are stationed in the area, and preventive measures are being strictly enforced to safeguard public health. (JKNS)
