Srinagar: In a fresh push to dismantle terror networks operating in the city, Srinagar Police on Sunday carried out searches at multiple locations as part of investigations registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), police said in a statement.

Police spokesperson in a statement issued to news agency JKNS said that the searches were part of a sustained crackdown on associates of proscribed outfits involved in supporting terrorist activities.

Searches were conducted at the residences of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Aziz Bhat, and Tawheed Ahmad, son of Abdul Khaliq—both residents of Sozieth and involved in FIR No. 73/2018 registered under sections 13 and 16 of UAPA at Police Station Rajbagh. Another search was carried out at the house of Ashiq Bashir Najar, son of Bashir Ahmad Najar, resident of Soiteng, who is named in FIR No. 05/2022 under IPC sections 302, 307, Arms Act, and UAPA, registered at Police Station Maisuma, and FIR No. 19/2022 at Police Station Khanyar.

Similarly, Salik Mehraj Dar, son of Mehraj-ud-Din Dar, and Umer Adil Dar, son of Ghulam Hassan Dar—both residents of Soiteng—were also named in FIR No. 20/2023 at Police Station Nowgam under various IPC and UAPA provisions. Bilal Ahmad Mir alias Faffu, son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir of Parimpora, was also searched in connection with FIR No. 29/DLI/21 of the NIA.

Burhan Nazir Khushoo, son of Nazir Ahmad Khushoo, resident of Berooni Kathidarwaza Rainawari, was found involved in FIR No. 48/2024 under UAPA at Police Station Khanyar and earlier booked under PSA in FIRs No. 70/2016 and 126/2016 at Police Station Rainawari. Police also searched the residence of Ashiq Malik, son of Abdul Khaliq Malik, of Panzinara, involved in FIR No. 30/2018 and FIR No. 280/2017 at Police Station Parimpora and booked under the PSA.

Others identified include Ishfaq Ahmad Wani, son of Late Mohammad Amin Wani, resident of Hamdaniya Colony Sector 4/A, and Mudasir Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Sultan Mir, resident of Malikpora Barthana, involved in FIR No. 127/2022 at Police Station Parimpora under the Arms Act and UAPA, and also booked under the PSA.

Irfan Ahmad Lone, son of Mohammad Abdullah Lone, resident of Bilal Colony Qamarwari, was found involved in FIR No. 163/2018 at Police Station Pattan under the Arms Act, while Irfan Ahmad Seeru, resident of Khan-e-Sokhta Nawakadal, was named in FIR No. 156/2024 under UAPA at Police Station Safakadal.

The final name listed is Naseer Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Ashraf Mir, resident of Saderbal Hazratbal, involved in FIR No. 02/2020 and FIR No. 109/2019 registered at Police Station Nigeen under multiple IPC, Explosives Act, and UAPA provisions.

The police statement added that the operations were conducted as per legal procedure under the supervision of Executive Magistrates and in presence of independent witnesses.

The raids were aimed at seizing arms, digital devices, and other materials crucial to evidence collection and disrupting potential conspiracies threatening national security, the statement added.

Police said this ongoing action is part of a broader effort to break the terror ecosystem and bring to justice those involved in anti-national activities. (JKNS)
