Sopore, Apr 17 (JKNS): In a continued offensive against drug trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Sopore Police on Friday arrested two persons and recovered a significant quantity of contraband in two separate operations across the town.
In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS reads, Continuing its sustained crackdown against drug trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Sopore Police achieved a major success by effecting recoveries in two separate actions and arresting two persons under the NDPS Act.
In the first instance, during the course of investigation of FIR No. 89/2026 under Sections 8/20, 22 and 29 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Sopore, a search was conducted at Shah Faisal Market, Sopore, in the presence of an Executive Magistrate.
The search, carried out as part of efforts to trace forward and backward linkages and dismantle the supply chain, was conducted at a crockery shop belonging to Mukhtar Ahmad Kanjwal, S/O Ghulam Rasool Kanjwal, R/O Noorbagh Sopore, it reads.
During the search, psychotropic substances including Spasmoproxyvon Plus, Pregabalin and Nortriptyline tablets, unsealed bottles of codeine-like substance, and contraband brown sugar-like substance were recovered and seized as per due procedure. The accused has been arrested in connection with the case.
In a separate instance, during night naka checking at Wagub Crossing, a naka party of Police Post Putkha intercepted one person identified as Tanveer Ahmad Shah, S/O Mohammad Akbar Shah, R/O Wagub Sopore. Upon personal search, psychotropic substance Spasmoproxyvon Plus was recovered from his possession.
Accordingly, FIR No. 59/2026 under Section 8/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Tarzoo. Further investigation in both cases is underway to ascertain the source and wider linkages involved, it reads.
Sopore Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and emphasised that both strict enforcement and targeted investigations under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan will continue to dismantle drug networks and safeguard society from the menace of drugs. (JKNS)
