CM announces ₹2 Lakh Relief for Kin of Deceased; ₹1 Lakh for Seriously Injured, ₹25,000 for minor injuries from CM relief fund

Srinagar, Apr 20 (JKNS): At least 21 people were killed and 61 others injured in a tragic bus accident on the Ramnagar–Udhampur route.

Accident occurred after a passenger bus met with an accident near Jalo area on the Ramnagar–Udhampur route, the bus was on its way from Ramnagar to Udhampur when it met with the accident under unclear circumstances, officials said.

Minister of State in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh said on Monday as per news agency JKNS, Dr Jitendra Singh in a post on X said, “Further update accident Ramnagar–Udhampur, 21 casualties so far and 61 injured. Injured have been shifted to Udhampur Hospital while one more seriously injured is being airlifted to Government Medical College Jammu. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families. All possible assistance is being provided. My office is in constant touch.”

President of India Droupadi Murmu expressed grief over the incident, saying, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the deaths of several people in the bus accident that occurred in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. I express my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragedy. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured.”

The Prime Minister’s Office also conveyed condolences, stating, “Pained to hear about the loss of lives due to a bus accident in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. I extend my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. An ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased, while the injured would be given Rs 50,000.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, “Deeply saddened by the tragic bus accident in Udhampur, Jammu & Kashmir. The loss of precious lives in this incident is very painful. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of grief. Praying for the speedy recovery of those injured and strength to all those affected.”

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi also expressed grief, saying the news of deaths due to a passenger bus falling into a deep gorge is extremely heartbreaking, and prayed for peace to the departed souls and recovery of the injured.

Former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said he was deeply saddened by the tragic accident and extended condolences to the bereaved families, urging authorities to ensure all possible assistance to the injured.

J&K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra termed the incident heartbreaking and urged immediate relief, proper medical care, and support for affected families.

Office of the Lieutenant Governor J&K said the tragic road accident is heartbreaking and directed district administration, Police, SDRF and Health Department to provide every possible assistance.

Meanwhile, the office of the Chief Minister said he has expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extended condolences to the bereaved families, and assured that the government stands firmly with the victims, with all necessary assistance being extended.

Office of J&K CM further wrote in another post, “While no amount of financial assistance can ever make up for the irreparable loss of lives in the tragic Udhampur road accident, as an immediate succour, the Chief Minister has announced immediate relief from the CM Relief Fund: ₹2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased, ₹1 lakh to those seriously injured, and ₹25,000 to those with minor injuries.”

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also condoled the death and expressed grief in a post on X, Mehbooba said, Deeply saddened by the tragic Udhampur – Ramnagar bus accident in which twelve people lost their lives. Condolences to the bereaved families & pray for the swift recovery of those injured. (JKNS)
