Srinagar, Apr 25 (JKNS): In a notable display of community participation, residents on Saturday carried out a large-scale plantation drive at Dignibal Forest Block under the Estate Range of Urban Forestry Division Srinagar, planting 500 Deodar saplings in a single day.
The initiative, as per news agency JKNS, was entirely organised and executed by local citizens without the involvement of any NGO or formal organisation, reflecting growing environmental awareness and collective responsibility among the public.
The drive witnessed participation from several community members including Irfan Mir of SP School Srinagar, Faizan Arif, Dr Tasneema, Dr Tajamul, Dr Rehana and other volunteers who joined hands to promote afforestation and ecological balance in the area.
Officials said the Jammu & Kashmir Forest Department supported the initiative by providing saplings, technical guidance and logistical assistance, ensuring smooth conduct of the drive. Senior officers including Chief Conservator of Forests Kashmir Irfan Rasool Wani and Range officials also facilitated the programme.
Participants expressed hope that such community-driven efforts would encourage similar plantation campaigns across Kashmir, especially at a time when environmental concerns like changing weather patterns, urbanisation and loss of green cover are becoming increasingly evident. (JKNS)
