Srinagar, Apr 27 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday underlined the need to accelerate startup growth in the Union Territory, asserting that the government is working to build a supportive ecosystem while drawing lessons from other states.

Speaking to reporters, as per news agency JKNS, Omar said J&K may be relatively behind in the startup race, but it has the advantage of learning from successful models elsewhere. He said the government has already rolled out a startup policy in 2024 and backed it with budgetary support to ensure tangible outcomes on the ground.

Highlighting future plans, the Chief Minister said efforts are underway to establish incubation infrastructure, including a proposed centre at Government College of Engineering Technology. He added that strengthening innovation platforms will help youth translate ideas into viable enterprises.

On a question regarding an attack on former US President Donald Trump, Omar reiterated that violence must have no place in democratic politics, stressing that disagreements should remain within the bounds of dialogue and expression.

Touching upon international issues, he advocated peaceful resolution of conflicts and said lasting peace is essential for global stability.

The Chief Minister also welcomed the enhancement of rail capacity between Jammu and Srinagar, stating that increasing coach capacity from 8 to 20 will significantly benefit passenger movement and tourism. He said the government will continue to push for higher frequency and improved connectivity to further strengthen the region’s tourism sector.

Omar added that he intends to raise key concerns regarding rail services at an upcoming event, reaffirming his government’s focus on infrastructure development and economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir. (JKNS)
