Kargil, Apr 27 (JKNS): Youth Empowerment Organisation (YEO) successfully conducted a Technical Design Development Workshop (TDDW) for 30 traditional hand embroidery artisans in Kargil, Ladakh.

The workshop was organized under an approved training programme aligned with the Handicrafts and Carpet Sector Skill Council (HCSSC), with the objective of enhancing artisans’ skills and promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities.

The programme was formally inaugurated by Mr. Mohammad Sajad Khan, Hon’ble Councillor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his address, he appreciated the efforts of YEO in bringing skill development initiatives to remote regions like Kargil and emphasized the importance of preserving traditional crafts while adapting them to modern market demands.

During the workshop, participants were trained in key areas such as design development, product innovation, quality standardization, and market-oriented production practices. The training also covered practical aspects including design conceptualization, motif development, colour planning, material selection, sampling, and product development.

Representatives from YEO highlighted that the initiative aims to bridge the gap between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary market requirements, thereby improving income generation opportunities for local artisans.

The participating artisans appreciated the programme, stating that the hands-on training and exposure to new design techniques would help enhance the quality and marketability of their products.

The workshop marks an important step towards empowering traditional hand embroiderers in the region and reinforces the role of skill development in preserving cultural heritage while ensuring economic sustainability. (JKNS)
