The launch of the 100-day Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha marks a decisive and much-needed step in tackling the growing menace of drug abuse in the Union Territory. At a time when substance abuse poses a serious threat to youth, families, and the social fabric, this campaign stands out as a comprehensive and result-oriented initiative aimed at both prevention and enforcement.

The strength of this campaign lies in its multi-dimensional approach. It is not limited to police action alone, but integrates awareness drives, community participation, rehabilitation efforts, and strict enforcement measures. By involving schools, colleges, civil society, and local communities, the campaign seeks to create a collective consciousness against drugs, ensuring that the fight is owned by society as a whole and not just by law enforcement agencies.

A key pillar of this initiative is the proactive and relentless role played by Jammu and Kashmir Police under the leadership of Nalin Prabhat. The force has significantly intensified its anti-narcotics operations, leading to major recoveries, arrests of peddlers, and dismantling of drug networks across both Jammu and Kashmir divisions. Their ground-level vigilance and swift action have sent a strong message that drug trafficking will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Equally commendable is the leadership and field-level execution by Bhim Sen Tuti and Vidhi Kumar Birdi, who have ensured that the campaign translates into real impact on the ground. From intensified naka checking to destruction of illegal cultivation and community outreach programmes, the efforts reflect a clear shift towards zero tolerance against drugs.

The campaign also emphasizes rehabilitation and reintegration of affected individuals, which is a crucial aspect often overlooked. Treating drug addiction as a social and health issue, alongside a law-and-order challenge, adds depth and sustainability to the initiative. This balanced approach ensures that while traffickers face strict action, victims of addiction are given a chance to rebuild their lives with dignity.

In a region like Jammu and Kashmir, where youth form a significant portion of the population, safeguarding them from the clutches of drugs is essential for long-term peace, stability, and development. The Nasha Mukt Abhiyan has the potential to bring about a meaningful transformation by not only curbing supply chains but also reducing demand through awareness and engagement.

Overall, this campaign is a timely and impactful intervention. With continued political will, strong policing, and active public participation, the vision of a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir is not just aspirational but achievable.

Another significant aspect of the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan is the visible synergy between different government departments. From police and excise to education, health, and local administration, the coordinated response has ensured that the campaign is not fragmented but unified in its objective. Such convergence is essential in tackling a complex issue like drug abuse, where both supply chains and social vulnerabilities must be addressed simultaneously.

The campaign has also brought renewed focus on rural and far-flung areas, where drug abuse often goes unnoticed due to lack of awareness and limited enforcement presence. Through intensified field visits, awareness programmes, and destruction of illegal cultivation, authorities have managed to extend the reach of this initiative beyond urban centres, ensuring that no area remains untouched in this fight.

Importantly, the involvement of youth, students, and civil society groups has added momentum to the movement. Awareness rallies, sports ac…
