Kokernag Drug Haul: Peddler Nabbed with 4.4 Kg Charas in Anantnag

Anantnag, Apr 29 (JKNS): Stepping up its sustained offensive against narcotics, Anantnag Police on Wednesday foiled a drug smuggling attempt in Kokernag by arresting a suspected peddler and seizing a large quantity of charas, marking another major success in the district’s anti-drug campaign.

Police spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS reads, Police achieved a significant success by apprehending a drug peddler and recovering a substantial quantity of contraband in Kokernag area.

A police party of Police Station Kokernag, during routine naka checking at Dodhkol Adhal Vailoo, intercepted a suspicious individual identified as Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh S/O Abdul Satar Sheikh R/O Adhal, who was on his way from Gadol towards Adhal. Upon noticing the police presence, the individual attempted to evade checking, which raised suspicion, it reads.

Statement reads that, During search, approximately 4.4 kilograms of charas powder-like substance was recovered from a polythene bag in his possession. The accused was immediately taken into custody.

In this regard, a case under FIR No. 36/2026 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kokernag and investigation has been initiated to unearth further links and the source of the contraband, it reads.

Anantnag Police reiterates its firm commitment to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society and urges the general public to come forward with any information related to drug peddling, statement reads. (JKNS)
