Anantnag, May 5 (JKNS): In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, Anantnag Police on Tuesday registered four NDPS cases, arrested five drug peddlers, and seized over 3.93 kilograms of contraband substances during multiple operations across the district.
As per news agency JKNS, police spokesperson said that, Anantnag Police achieved major success by registering 04 NDPS cases, apprehending 05 drug peddlers, and seizing over 3.93 kilograms of narcotic substances in multiple operations conducted across the district.
In the first operation, a police party of Police Station Mattan during routine patrolling at Seer Hamdan near Cricket Stadium on Sandooz Road noticed one suspicious person carrying polythene bags coming from Seer towards Sandooz was arrested and during his search, 530 grams of charas powder-like substance and 3.345 Kgs of grinded poppy straw were recovered from his possession.
He was identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Mir S/O Gh Mohammad Mir R/O Seer Hamdan, a notorious drug peddler of the area. In this regard, Case FIR No. 50/2026 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Mattan and investigation has been set into motion.
In another operation, Police Station Bijbehara during naka checking at NHW-44, Landing Strip Bijbehara, apprehended two drug peddlers identified as Talib Gull Shah S/O Gull Mohammad Shah R/O Qaimoh Khudwani and Aqib Ahmad Malik S/O Gull Mohammad Malik R/O Railway Colony Sadoora, Anantnag.
During their search, 8.18 grams of brown sugar-like substance (along with polythene) was recovered from their possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 116/2026 U/S 8/21, 29 NDPS Act stands registered and investigation has been initiated.
Inanother operation, Police Station Bijbehara apprehended one drug peddler identified as Shafqat Ahmad Sofi S/O Mohammad Yousuf Sofi R/O Qaimoh Khudwani during naka checking at Railway Crossing Hassanpora, Bijbehara.
During search, 5.58 grams of brown sugar-like substance (along with polythene) was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 117/2026 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act stands registered and investigation has been set into motion.
Moreove in another operation, Police Station Bijbehara apprehended one drug peddler identified as Jaffar Mushtaq Dar S/O Mushtaq Ahmad Dar R/O Tulkhan during naka checking at Tulkhan Road, Bijbehara.
During his search, 49 grams of charas (sticks), concealed in corn flakes, was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 118/2026 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act stands registered and investigation has been taken up.
With these operations, Anantnag Police has once again demonstrated its firm resolve to dismantle the narcotics network and protect society from the menace of drugs.
