Srinagar, May 11 (JKNS): Senior Superintendent of Police SSP Anantnag Amod Ashok Nagpure on Monday said that Anantnag Police has launched an aggressive and sustained crackdown against drug trafficking under the ongoing 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, registering 120 FIRs and arresting 118 drug peddlers within just one month.

Addressing a press conference, SSP Amod Nagpure, as per news agency JKNS, said that during multiple operations conducted across the district, police seized over 300 kilograms of contraband substances and intensified action against narcotics networks operating in the region.

He said properties linked to drug trafficking worth nearly ₹10 crore were attached in 14 cases under relevant legal provisions, while two illegally acquired properties worth around ₹3.5 crore were demolished as proceeds of narcotics trade.

The SSP further said that illegal narcotic cultivation spread over nearly 300 marlas of land was destroyed during the campaign, while around 1,084 kilograms of seized narcotic substances were disposed of after completion of legal formalities.

Nagpure said the crackdown also led to the arrest of one female drug peddler and two female cultivators involved in narcotics activities. He added that two government employees were also found involved in drug-related cases and legal action has been initiated against them.

“In coordination with concerned departments, 13 driving licences and 9 registration certificates were cancelled in connection with narcotics offences. Besides, 119 habitual offenders and major peddlers were booked under preventive detention laws,” he said.

The SSP said Anantnag Police conducted nearly 80 Narco CASOs (Cordon and Search Operations) across the district to dismantle the drug supply chain and movement of narcotics.

He further stated that 45 medical shops were inspected jointly with concerned departments, during which 15 violations were detected and legal action was initiated against the violators.

“Two narcotic hideouts were also busted as part of our zero-tolerance policy against the drug menace,” SSP Nagpure said, adding that 50 Investigating Officers handling NDPS cases were imparted specialised training at DPO Anantnag to improve investigation and evidence management.

Reaffirming police commitment towards making society drug-free, SSP Nagpure appealed to the public, especially youth, to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in identifying and reporting drug-related activities. “Public support is crucial in safeguarding the future of our society from this dangerous menace,” he said.
