Srinagar, May 12 (JKNS): Srinagar Police has intensified its aggressive crackdown against narcotics networks under the “War Against Drugs” and “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan”, registering massive seizures, arrests, property attachments and awareness campaigns across the district under the supervision of District Police Chief Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy.

According to official figures accessed by news agency JKNS, Srinagar Police has registered a total of 101 NDPS-related cases so far and arrested 143 persons involved in drug peddling and narcotics trafficking.

During the operations, police recovered 1.299 kilograms of heroin, 75.93 grams of brown sugar, 5.540 kilograms of charas, 24.846 kilograms of ganja, 4.316 kilograms of cannabis, 1.900 kilograms of poppy straw and 0.200 kilograms of bhang, figures revealed.

Police also seized 12,642 psychotropic tablets and capsules besides 24 bottles of psychotropic syrup/codeine corex. Cash amounting to ₹4.13 lakh was recovered during different operations, while 42 bank accounts containing over ₹30.08 lakh were frozen as part of financial investigations into drug trafficking networks.

In a major blow to narco-financial networks, Srinagar Police attached 11 immovable and 4 movable properties worth ₹21.544 crore linked to drug smugglers. Three illegally raised properties worth ₹3.55 crore were also demolished during anti-drug operations. Additionally, 35 vehicles used in narcotics transportation were seized.

The anti-drug campaign also witnessed strict legal and administrative action against offenders. Police booked eight accused under the PIT-NDPS Act, suspended or blacklisted 84 driving licences, flagged or deactivated six Aadhaar cards and impounded one passport linked to drug-related activities.

Notably, Srinagar Police launched focused operations around educational institutions and registered eight FIRs against drug peddlers operating near schools and colleges, leading to the arrest of 14 persons. Authorities also destroyed illegal poppy and opium cultivation spread across 25.03 kanals of land in different areas.

As part of preventive enforcement, Srinagar Police checked 703 chemists and medical shops across the district, while 15 shops were seized for violating norms related to narcotic and psychotropic substances.

Alongside enforcement, police carried out massive awareness outreach programmes under the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign. A total of 210 awareness programmes were conducted, witnessing participation of around 27,840 people including students, youth, civil society members and parents.

Speaking to news agency JKNS, SSP Srinagar Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy said police are aggressively tracking both forward and backward linkages of drug networks to completely dismantle the narco ecosystem operating in the district. He said almost all major drug operators and “big fishes” involved in narcotics trafficking are already under custody, while the remaining networks are being tracked through sustained intelligence and technical surveillance.

The SSP further stated that Srinagar Police has widened its focus beyond street-level peddlers and is systematically cracking the financial backbone of drug cartels by targeting bank accounts, illegal assets, shell networks and monetary transactions linked to narcotics trafficking. He asserted that the campaign will continue with full force until every network destroying the future of Kashmiri youth is dismantled completely.

He reiterated Srinagar Police’s commitment towards making Kashmir drug-free through strict enforcement, public participation and sustained action against narcotics networks. SSP Sundeep also urged citizens to report drug-related activities through the Anti-Drug Helpline 9596770550 or official email support channels.

It is pertinent to mention that the 100-day Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan was launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on April 11, 2026, to dismantle narcotics networks across Jammu and Kashmir and make the Union Territory drug-free. (JKNS)
