Anantnag, May 23 (JKNS): In a major crackdown against drug trafficking in South Kashmir, Anantnag Police on Saturday arrested two alleged drug peddlers in Kokernag area and recovered a sizeable quantity of contraband substances from their possession during naka checking.

 

In a statement police spokesperson as per news agency JKNS said, Anantnag Police achieved another success by arresting two drug peddlers in the Kokernag area and recovering contraband substance from their possession.

 

A police party of Police Station Kokernag, during naka checking at Panzgam, noticed two suspicious persons roaming in the area. Upon being signaled to stop, both individuals attempted to flee from the spot but were tactfully apprehended by the alert naka party, it reads.

 

Police spokesperson further said that, During questioning, the accused were identified as Aijaz Ahmad Wani S/o Sana Ullah Wani and Rouf Ahmad Bhat S/o Mohd Maqbool Bhat, both residents of Panzgam, Kokernag. During their search, contraband substances were recovered from their possession. The recovered contraband includes about 584 grams of Ganja-like substance and about 67 grams of Charas-like substance.

 

Accordingly, FIR No. 57/2026 under Sections 8/20, 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kokernag and investigation has been taken up, it reads.

 

Anantnag Police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and appeals to the general public to share information regarding drug-related activities in their areas. Public cooperation remains vital in eliminating the drug menace from society, it reads. (JKNS)
