Woman Swept Away in Ganiwan Canal, Body Retrieved in Ganderbal

Ganderbal, May 23 (JKNS): A woman who was reportedly swept away in the Ganiwan Hydro Power Canal in Gund area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Saturday evening was later found dead after a massive rescue operation by multiple rescue agencies.

Officials told news agency JKNS that rescue teams from Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Gund, SDRF, Gund Police and Kangan Police, under the supervision of SHO Gund, launched a joint search operation soon after receiving information about the incident.

The deceased was identified as Ruksana, a resident of Syed Basti Surfraw.

After hectic efforts, the body of the woman was retrieved from the canal by the rescue teams, officials said.

Meanwhile, legal formalities were being carried out by the concerned authorities, and cognizance have been taken. (JKNS)
