Budgam, May 24 (JKNS): Budgam Police on Sunday issued a strong warning against the circulation of photographs, names and other identifying details of the minor girl victim in the recent Budgam case, stating that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the law through social media or other platforms.

Police spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS said, It has come to the notice of Budgam Police that certain individuals are posting and circulating photographs and other identifying particulars of a minor girl (victim) on social media platforms.

Such actions are unlawful and have the potential to spread misinformation, create public unrest, and disturb communal harmony, police said.

Budgam Police strongly advises the general public and media fraternity to refrain from posting, sharing, or circulating the name, photographs, or any identifying details of the minor victim, as well as from disseminating rumours or unverified information related to the incident. Disclosure of the identity of a minor victim is prohibited under law, they said.

Any individual or group found involved in posting or circulating such prohibited content on social media shall face strict legal action in accordance with law.

A case FIR No. 139/2026 under Sections 137(1) and 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has already been registered at Police Station Budgam, and investigation in the matter is underway under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Budgam.

Budgam Police is closely monitoring social media activities related to the case and reiterates its commitment to conducting a fair and thorough investigation, police said.

The public is requested to cooperate with the investigating agencies and to act responsibly by neither sharing nor believing unverified or misleading content on social media platforms, police spokesperson said. (JKNS)
