Srinagar, May 24 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday strongly condemned the brutal killing of a 12-year-old girl in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, describing the incident as “shocking and deeply distressing.”

In a post on X, the Office of the Chief Minister, as per news agency JKNS, quoted CM Omar Abdullah as saying that the tragic murder has raised serious concerns about the safety of children and the direction society is heading towards.

“The tragic murder of a young preteen girl in Budgam district of Central Kashmir is both shocking and deeply distressing,” the Chief Minister said.

He said while the concerned agencies are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder, society also needs to introspect over the growing insecurity faced by children.

“It’s also fitting that we reflect on where we as a society are headed when our young children are not safe,” he remarked.

CM Omar Abdullah condemned the attack “without reservation or condition” and expressed heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family.

“May she find place in Jannat,” he added.

The Chief Minister further assured that his government will fully support the investigating agencies to ensure that those responsible for the heinous crime are identified and given exemplary punishment under law. (JKNS)
