Srinagar, May 25 (JKNS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday praised India’s disaster response forces for successfully rescuing more than 300 tourists stranded mid-air after a technical malfunction hit the Gulmarg Gondola cable car system in north Kashmir.
In a post on X, Amit Shah, as per news agency JKNS, said, “Applause to India’s disaster response forces for safely rescuing 300 tourists stranded mid-air in cable cars in Gulmarg, Kashmir.”
The SDRF, NDRF, Army personnel, local police and civil administration jointly carried out a six-hour-long rescue operation and safely evacuated all stranded passengers from 65 cable cars, he said.
“Applause to India’s disaster response forces for safely rescuing 300 tourists stranded mid-air in cable cars in Gulmarg, Kashmir,” Shah wrote.
He said the rescue teams immediately swung into action and displayed exemplary courage and professionalism during the operation.
“The nation salutes the forces for their valour and skill,” the Home Minister added.
Earlier, as reported, the malfunction caused a sudden suspension of Gondola services, triggering panic among tourists amid adverse weather conditions.
Following a distress call from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Gondola Management Authority, the Indian Army swiftly mobilized rescue teams towards the affected area.
DGP J&K Nalin Prabhat, IGP Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi, DIG North Kashmir, SSP Baramulla and DG SDRF are personally supervising the Gondola rescue operation from the spot. (JKNS)
