SC Collegium Recommends Justice Arun Palli, Four Others for Elevation to Supreme Court

Srinagar, May 27 (JKNS): The Supreme Court Collegium headed by the Chief Justice of India has recommended the elevation of Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India.

Supreme Court Collegium, in its meetings held on May 22 and 27, 2026 as per news agency JKNS, also recommended elevation of Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court; Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, Chief Justice of Bombay High Court; Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court, and Senior Advocate Mrs. V. Mohana as Judges of the Supreme Court of India.

 

Justice Arun Palli is presently also serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

 

Born on September 18, 1964, in Patiala, Punjab, Justice Palli belongs to a prominent legal family. His father, Justice Prem Kishan Palli, served as a Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, while his grandfather and great-grandfather were reputed lawyers in Patiala.

 

Justice Palli completed his graduation in Commerce and obtained his LL.B degree from Panjab University Chandigarh in 1988, following which he started legal practice at the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

 

During his legal career, he handled matters related to civil, criminal, constitutional, revenue, labour and industrial laws.

 

He also served as Additional Advocate General for Punjab from 2004 to 2007 and was designated as Senior Advocate in 2007.

 

Justice Palli was elevated as a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in December 2013 and became a permanent judge in 2014.

He has also served as Executive Chairman of the Haryana State Legal Services Authority and Member of the Governing Body of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).

On April 16, 2025, he took oath as Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. (JKNS)
