Beerwah, June 5 (JKNS): A 45-year-old labourer from Uttar Pradesh was killed in a leopard attack in the Beerwah area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday, officials said.
Reports reaching news agency JKNS stated that the deceased was identified as Harish Chander, son of Kashi, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, who was employed at a brick kiln in Baput, Beerwah, owned by Mohd Altaf Thoker.
The labourer was reportedly attacked by a leopard near the brick kiln premises. His body was later recovered from a nearby area, triggering panic among fellow workers and locals.
Soon after receiving information about the incident, a police team reached the spot and took custody of the body.
The body was shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities, while police have initiated proceedings in the matter.
Meanwhile, wildlife authorities are expected to conduct an assessment of the area and take appropriate measures to prevent further incidents. (JKNS)
