Srinagar, Jun 4 (JKNS): A major fire incident broke out in the Kalwal Mohalla area of Rainawari in Srinagar on Thursday evening, damaging several residential structures and prompting a large-scale firefighting and rescue operation.

An official told news agency JKNS that soon after the blaze was reported, teams from the Fire and Emergency Services Department, along with police personnel, rushed to the spot and launched efforts to contain the flames.

Preliminary reports indicate that at least four houses have been affected by the fire. Authorities are working to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby residential structures in the densely populated locality.

Firefighters, assisted by local residents, continued operations late into the evening to bring the situation under control. Residents were also evacuated from vulnerable areas as a precautionary measure.

The exact cause of the fire was not immediately known. No loss of life or injuries had been reported till the filing of this report, while firefighting operations were still in progress. (JKNS)
