Srinagar, Jun 12 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted a three-member inquiry committee to conduct a detailed investigation into the recent death of a patient at Government Medical College (GMC) and Associated Hospital Rajouri, with directions to submit its findings within two weeks.
As per Government Order No. 472-JK(HME) of 2026 dated June 12, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, the Health and Medical Education Department has ordered the inquiry to ensure a fair, objective and transparent examination of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The committee will be headed by Prof. (Dr.) Pramod Kalsotra, Principal, Government Medical College Udhampur. Other members include Prof. (Dr.) Abdul Gani from the Department of Orthopaedics, Government Medical College Jammu, and Dr. Narinder Bhutial, Medical Superintendent, Government Gandhi Nagar Hospital Jammu.
According to the order, the committee has been tasked with examining all facts and circumstances leading to the incident, scrutinizing allegations raised by the deceased patient’s family, and reviewing treatment protocols followed by the attending medical staff to assess adherence to prescribed clinical guidelines.
The panel will also determine whether any negligence, omission, or deviation from standard medical practices occurred, fix responsibility for any lapses in preparedness, medical intervention or service delivery, and recommend corrective measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The committee has been directed to submit a detailed report along with documentary evidence to the Administrative Department within two weeks from the issuance of the order.
The government has instructed the Principal of GMC Rajouri and all concerned officers and officials to extend full cooperation and provide all necessary records and documents required for the inquiry. (JKNS)
