Srinagar, June 15 (JKNS): Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Nasir-ul-Islam, on Monday announced that the month of Muharram-ul-Haram (Islamic New Year) will commence in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

 

 

 

 

Speaking to news agency JKNS, the Grand Mufti said that the crescent moon for Muharram-ul-Haram was not sighted from any part of Jammu and Kashmir.

 

 

 

 

“As no credible moon sighting reports were received from any part of the Union Territory, the 1st of Muharram-ul-Haram will be observed on Wednesday, June 17, 2026,” he said.

 

 

 

 

Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Nasir-ul-Islam, extended his greetings to the Muslim Ummah on the commencement of the Islamic New Year, praying for peace, prosperity, harmony and well-being of the people.

 

 

 

 

He urged the faithful to draw inspiration from the values of sacrifice, patience and righteousness associated with the month of Muharram and prayed for unity and progress in the society. (JKNS)
