Srinagar, June 30 (JKNS): Abida Nazir Khan, a senior lecturer in the Youth Services and Sports Department and an accomplished former cricketer from Kashmir, has become the first woman from Kashmir to be appointed as a member of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).

Abida Nazir Khan had earlier become the first woman from Kashmir to qualify the BCCI Level-A Coaching Course in its inaugural batch with Grade A, marking a significant achievement in women’s cricket coaching in Jammu and Kashmir.

She has also qualified the National Institute of Sports (NIS) Certificate Course with Grade A and represented the Jammu and Kashmir Senior Women’s Cricket Team in one-day cricket. She has also represented Kurukshetra University in the All India Inter-University Cricket and Baseball Championships for two years.

As a coach, she has served the J&K Senior Women’s Cricket Team at the BCCI elite level and guided the historic team that qualified for the knockout stage for the first time in 2021. She has also coached the J&K Senior Women’s and U-19 Women’s teams on several occasions.

Abida has worked as a Senior Selector for JKCA for multiple seasons and has been serving as a Cricket Selector in the Youth Services and Sports Department since 2009.

For her contribution to sports, she was honoured by the District Administration Srinagar in 2022 for outstanding service in the field of sports and received the Best Teacher Award 2024 from the Director General, Youth Services and Sports, Jammu and Kashmir.

She was also honoured by the HF Foundation in 2025 for her outstanding contribution to society and was part of the Oasis Friendship Camp (NGO Life Movement) in 2023. Earlier, she was adjudged Runner-up Best Speaker at Kurukshetra University in 2006.

In recognition of her achievements, she was also nominated by the World Human Rights Organisation for a prestigious Women’s Day Award 2026, though the award function could not be held due to unavoidable reasons.

Her appointment to the JKCA Cricket Advisory Committee is being seen as another milestone for women’s participation and leadership in cricket administration in Jammu and Kashmir. (JKNS)
