Srinagar, July 3 (JKNS): In a significant step towards strengthening skill-based education and promoting sustainable tourism, Government Polytechnic for Women (GPW) Srinagar on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sagg Eco Village Kashmir to provide students with practical exposure in eco-tourism, hospitality and rural entrepreneurship.
As per news agency JKNS, It has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sagg Eco Village Kashmir to strengthen collaboration in skills development, sustainable tourism, and community-based hospitality initiatives.
The MoU was signed today at GPW Srinagar in the presence of college officials, faculty members, student representatives, and delegates from Sagg Eco Village Kashmir.
The agreement will create opportunities for students and faculty in practical training, internships, field visits, joint workshops, and project-based learning focused on eco-tourism, homestay management, sustainable food and hospitality practices, and rural enterprise development.
Key highlights of the MoU, Internship and Training: Structured internships and hands-on training placements for students in Sagg Eco Village’s hospitality and community tourism programs. Curriculum Enrichment: Joint workshops and guest-lectures to integrate practical eco-tourism and sustainable hospitality modules into academic activities. Field Visits and Projects: Regular field visits and live projects to provide experiential learning in rural tourism operations, organic food production, and community-led conservation.
Skill Development and Certification: Vocational short-term courses, skill camps, and certificate programmes jointly offered to enhance employability and entrepreneurship among students. Research and Community Outreach: Collaborative research initiatives, documentation of local cultural heritage, and community outreach projects supporting women-led enterprises and sustainable livelihoods.
Speaking on the occasion Principal Government Polytechnic for Women, Srinagar, Er. Imtiaz Ahmad said, “This partnership aligns with our commitment to provide industry-relevant, experiential learning for our students. Working with Sagg Eco Village will expose students to sustainable tourism practices and local community engagement, enhancing their career readiness.
Founder of the Sagg Eco Village Kashmir Shri Fayaz Ahmad Dar said, “We are excited to collaborate with GPW Srinagar to build capacity among young women in hospitality and sustainable tourism. Together we hope to promote responsible tourism that benefits local communities.”
The HOD of the Department of Travel & Tourism Mrs. Rukhsana Bashir further added that, “such initiatives are essential for preparing students to meet the changing demands of the tourism and hospitality sector, especially in regions like Kashmir where responsible and sustainable tourism has immense potential.”
