Srinagar, July 13 (JKNS): The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday said that unity of the people and sustained democratic struggle remain the only way forward for restoring the constitutional and democratic rights of Jammu and Kashmir, while paying tributes to the July 13, 1931 martyrs.

13th July is an integral part of our history as this date has been engraved in our memory because of the martyrs who sacrificed their precious lives for the overthrowing of autocracy and the tyrannical rule.

Since abrogation of Article 370 on 5th August, 2019, strict restrictions are imposed upon people of J&K to visit the Mazar-e-Shohda to pay their homage to the heroes of July 13, 1931, the day of great historical significance for the people of J&K. The memory of July 13 martyrs cannot be erased from our hearts and history by merely cancelling the holiday on this day. The land laws implemented after the overthrow of the autocratic rule was the great and unique achievement of the people of J&K, which are being changed post-abrogation, thereby adversely impacting the land and job securities of the people of J&K. Tall claims for creation of huge job opportunities since 2019 turned to be farce on ground. People are harassed on one pretext or the other by some sections of law enforcing agencies, thus, widening the mistrust among the people. Number of people are languishing in jails, especially outside J&K without trials.

Despite massive participation in assembly elections of 2024, mandate is not being appreciated by those in authority at Delhi. The bureaucracy is ruling the roost, impacting adversely the public delivery in Jammu Kashmir.

People of J&K are realizing through their own experiences that restoration of the constitutional rights, primarily and urgently the Statehood with the protection of land and job rights and freedom of expression are the issues of vital importance which need united resolve to fight back.

Broader Unity and struggle for the Immediate issues concerning the well-being of people and restoration of democratic and constitutional rights is the only way forward. We had applied to district administration for permitting our party to proceed to the Mazar-e-Shohda to pay floral tributes to the martyrs but were not allowed to do so.

The real tribute to the martyrs demands the firm resolve to continue the struggle for better future of our people. (JKNS)
