Srinagar, July 20 (JKNS): The Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), Jammu and Kashmir, has intensified its food safety surveillance by conducting a comprehensive inspection and sampling drive across dairy manufacturing units in the Union Territory.
As per news agency JKNS, Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), Jammu & Kashmir Continued its enforcement and surveillance activities by conducting a comprehensive inspection-cum-sampling drive across dairy manufacturing units in the Union Territory to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 .
The inspections were aimed at verifying adherence to food safety standards, with particular emphasis on sanitary and hygienic conditions, implementation of Good Hygienic Practices (GHP), personal hygiene of food handlers, equipment sanitation, storage conditions, and overall compliance with statutory food safety requirements. The drive seeks to ensure that consumers are provided with safe, wholesome, and quality milk and milk products.
During the enforcement drive, 17 dairy manufacturing units located in Srinagar, Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Pulwama, Anantnag, Kishtwar, Baramulla, Budgam , Bandipore and Ganderbal were inspected across the Union Territory. A total of 34 samples of milk and milk products were collected for laboratory analysis, comprising Paneer (14), Milk (10), Dahi (8), Ghee (1), and Ice Cream (1).
The collected samples have been forwarded to the notified Food Testing Laboratories for analysis to determine their conformity with the prescribed standards under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Three Improvement Notices were issued under Section 32 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 to Food Business Operators (FBOs) for rectification of deficiencies observed during inspection.
The concerned FBOs have been directed to undertake corrective measures within the stipulated period and ensure strict compliance with food safety and hygiene requirements.
Consumers have been advised to remain vigilant while purchasing milk and milk products and to report any suspected cases of unsafe, adulterated, or substandard food through the Toll-Free Helpline No. 104 or by email at cfsjandk.fnd@jk.gov.in. (JKNS)
