Baramulla, July 23 (JKNS): The District Magistrate Baramulla has prohibited individuals, organisations, NGOs and trusts from collecting donations or funds from the public without obtaining valid permission from the competent authority, citing concerns over unauthorised fundraising activities.

According to an order issued by the District Magistrate, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, the directive has been issued following inputs from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Baramulla, indicating that certain non-local individuals, including women, were found collecting donations in Baramulla town on the pretext of providing relief to victims of natural calamities.

The order states that during verification, the individuals concerned failed to produce any valid authorisation, permission or supporting documents issued by any Government authority, NGO, charitable organisation or any other competent authority permitting them to collect funds.

The administration observed that unauthorised collection of donations raises serious concerns regarding transparency and accountability and could lead to misuse of public goodwill and exploitation of citizens through fraudulent fundraising campaigns.

In exercise of powers vested in the District Magistrate, it has been ordered that no individual, organisation, NGO or trust shall undertake any donation or fund collection drive in Baramulla district without obtaining prior permission from the competent authority.

The order further directs the SSPs of Baramulla and Sopore, along with all Executive Magistrates concerned, to ensure strict implementation of the directive and take appropriate legal action against violators under the relevant provisions of law. (JKNS)
