Karnah, July 30 (JKNS): As preparations gather pace for India’s 79th Independence Day celebrations, the Jammu & Kashmir Police on Thursday organised a flag awareness programme at Government Degree College (GDC) Karnah to promote awareness about the proper use, display and dignity of the Indian National Flag in accordance with the Flag Code of India.
The programme brought together senior police officers, education officials, heads of educational institutions and teachers. Among those present were DSP DAR Gulzar Ahmad, GDC Karnah Principal Asadullah Khan and Zonal Education Officer Tangdhar Shah Mohammad.
Addressing the gathering, speakers underscored the historical, constitutional and symbolic importance of the Tricolour, describing it as a representation of India’s sovereignty, unity, sacrifice and national identity. They stressed that safeguarding the dignity of the National Flag is a shared civic responsibility and urged citizens to adhere to the provisions of the Flag Code of India during Independence Day celebrations.
Officials also provided a practical demonstration on the correct procedures for hoisting, lowering, handling and storing the National Flag, highlighting the prescribed guidelines to ensure that its honour and dignity are maintained at all times.
Police officials said Independence Day is an occasion to remember the sacrifices of those who fought for the country’s freedom and to reaffirm the values of unity and patriotism. They appealed to educational institutions, students and members of the public to celebrate the occasion with pride while ensuring full compliance with the Flag Code.
The awareness programme concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to respecting the National Flag and observing the Flag Code of India during the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations. (JKNS)
