Srinagar, Aug 3 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Monday announced the schedule for the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2026, designating Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to preside over the main function at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, where he will hoist the National Flag and take the ceremonial salute.
According to an order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, the Chief Minister will lead the Union Territory-level celebrations at Bakshi Stadium.
The order further states that Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary will preside over the Independence Day function at Jammu, while Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Masood Itoo will lead the celebrations in Anantnag.
It also specifies that Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs Minister Javed Ahmad Rana will preside over the function in Poonch, Agriculture Production Minister Javid Ahmad Dar will take the salute in Baramulla, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Satish Sharma will lead the celebrations in Kathua, and Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani will preside over the function in Kupwara.
The Government has also directed that Deputy Commissioners shall preside over the Independence Day functions at all remaining district headquarters not covered by the above dignitaries.
Similarly, Sub-Divisional Magistrates will preside over celebrations at their respective sub-divisional headquarters, while Tehsildars or the senior-most civil officers, as decided by the concerned Deputy Commissioners, will lead Independence Day functions at tehsil, block and municipal headquarters.
